We would like to thank Chris for the following story.
My encounter with Bill Murray occurred in March 2013. I was waiting at the airport with my wife and two kids to take off for our two-week Hawaiian vacation. The gate next to ours was to Charleston, SC. The Charleston flight must have been a new flight from JFK, because they had a breakfast buffet for passengers celebrating food from South Carolina.
We stayed away from the buffet for the first hour or so, but eventually it seemed that everyone (not just the people flying to Charleston) started to help themselves to the fresh fruits and pastries. I eventually went over to the buffet and poured myself a cup of coffee, prepared a bagel, and grabbed some fresh fruit for my wife and kids.
As I was spreading my bagel with the pimento spread, I heard a voice say to me, “Pimento spread – That’s kinda funny!”
I looked up not knowing what to expect. Honestly, the first thing that popped into my mind was “Who the hell is this guy?”, but it turned out to be Bill Murray.
I said, “Hey, you’re Bill Murray! Can I shake your hand?” He acknowledged who he was and shook my hand.
That was it.
Afterwards, I went over to my wife very excited. She witnessed the encounter. I kind of wish now that I said more to him, like how I appreciated his talents as an actor and enjoyed so many of his movies (especially Lost in Translation). Oh well, he kind of caught me off guard.
You got to love a guy who seems to not take himself or life too seriously. Too bad not everyone in Hollywood is like that!
That encounter started my vacation off on a great and memorable note!
